Trinity’s Got a Grand!

This fall, several folk were in the sanctuary admiring the newly upholstered pews, and Carol Miller asked what did the church need next?

Someone quickly said, “A piano. This sanctuary needs a grand piano.” A week later Carol affirmed her desire to give a piano in memory of her parents, June and Irvin Smith.

Carol had this to say about her parents: “My parents were members of Trinity all their married life and Dad was very interested in anything musical. Dad played trombone, piano and had been in a dance band in his early years. Mother was always singing around the house and sang to all her children. Both parents sang in the choir at one time. They were always going to band concerts in the area. They were always involved in anything musical we kids were participating in during our school years. Music is in our genes. We all loved it and I’m sure they’d approve of the piano gift.”

So Joy Ide started looking. A piano tuner friend knew of a 2004 Boston Grand available in Maryland, so Joy and her husband went to see it, liked the instrument, and very quickly thereafter the purchase was approved by the church council.

We are thrilled with this gift. Not only does a grand piano look wonderful, the sound is what really counts in a church sanctuary.

Thank you, Carol Miller and family, for this beautiful gift to Trinity!
